Washington's new charter schools law ranked 3rd in U.S.
Washington's new public charter school law is less than two months old, but it was already ranked as the third strongest public charter school law in the nation. The annual rankings, released January 30 by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, said Washington's new law positions itself to produce high-quality charter schools.
Washington is now one of 43 states to allow charter schools as part of its public school system. Voters in November 2012 passed Initiative 1240 to authorize up to 40 charter schools during a five-year period. Partnership for Learning is a lead member of the Washington Coalition of Public Charter Schools, which is working to support effective implementation of high-quality charter schools that will serve at-risk students and those who attend persistently low-performing schools.
