Seattle Schools Get Strategic

Maria Goodloe-Johnson Last Wednesday, after months of preparation, Seattle Supt. Maria Goodloe Johnson unveiled a draft overview of Seattle Public Schools new strategic master plan.

And what a plan it is: The district hopes to double the number of students meeting college-entry requirements and significantly improve student math and science performance. Ambitious indeed, but these academic goals are only a part of a much broader plan that Goodloe-Johnson will roll out this month for public comment. The Seattle Times says, “the [initial] overview was short on details” and “no timeline or costs were attached, either.”

But take a look and decide for yourself. You can view McKinsey and Co.’s Strategic Plan Framework and Goodloe-Johnson’s overview presentation, offer feedback by using this form and send comments to strategicplan@seattleschools.org. Goodloe-Johnson will present the plan and public recommendations to the Seattle School Board on May 21, before they vote the strategic plan on June 4.
