Simple majority declares victory

In a reversal of fortune from Election Day polls last week, Joint House Resolution 4204 has swung ahead in tallies and has been declared voter approved.

The resolution, aimed at eliminating the 60 percent supermajority required to approve special levies for school districts, was favored by just 50.4 percent at the end of Wednesday. That's a significant upswing overall for supporters of the measure, which had the support of only about 46 percent of the tallied votes at the end of Election Day last week, according to the Seattle P-I.

Sen. Rodney Tom, D-Bellevue, said the measure's passage shows which issues voters really care about. "This shows that the people have one priority in this state -- it's education."
